Official Rules

“Responsible Gaming Messaging Challenge” Official Rules.  

 
By entering this contest, participants agree to abide by these Official Rules.  
  

Contest Sponsors  

The “Responsible Gaming Messaging Challenge” is sponsored by the Rhode Island Council on Problem Gambling, Rhode Island Problem Gambling Services, Bally’s Corporation, and EPIC Global Solutions.   
  

Description of Contest Objectives  

In recognition of Problem Gambling Awareness Month 2025, the Rhode Island Council on Problem Gambling, Rhode Island Problem Gambling Services, Bally’s Corporation, and EPIC Global Solutions invite college students 18-25 who are actively enrolled in a Rhode Island college or university to participate in a creative contest. Participants will submit a written piece or creative artwork centered on themes of responsible gaming and/or gambling harm prevention. This initiative aims to elevate young voices in raising awareness and educating their peers.  

  

Platform(s)  

Events from this contest may be announced and promoted on various social media platforms including Facebook, Instagram, TikTok, and Twitter, but contest entry and administration will take place through Responsible Gaming Messaging Challenge website submission form and e-mail.    
  

How to Enter  

The contest commences on Wednesday, January 15, 2025. Entries may be submitted between Wednesday January 15, 2025, and Monday, April 28, 2025.  

  • Submission form must include student email address as well as a photo of Rhode Island state ID.  

  • Upload submission via one of the below approved file formats:   

  • Video: MP4, MOV (max size 500 MB) or via private Youtube or Vimeo link  

  • Written: PDF or Word Document  

  • Art: JPEG, PNG, or PDF (high-resolution image of physical artwork) Photographs of physical artwork is acceptable.   

  • Once an entry is submitted, it is considered a final submission and may not be modified, edited, or replaced.  

  • Individual contestants may submit no more than one entry.  

  • Finalists will be contacted via email.  

  • Participation in this contest is deemed as acceptance of these Official Contest Rules.  
      

Submission Requirements  

  • Submissions must not contain obscenity, explicit sexual material, nudity, profanity, graphic violence, calls or incitement to violence, commercial solicitation or commercial promotion. Submissions must conform to local law and must not contain content or images that could be considered abusive, inflammatory, denigrating, or disrespectful to any of the Contest Sponsors, or to any groups, individuals or institutions.   

  • Submissions must be original content created by the contestant and must not contain any elements that are protected by someone else’s copyright or otherwise subject to third-party intellectual property or proprietary rights.   

  • Contest Sponsors reserve the right to disqualify, at their sole and absolute discretion, any submission that does not adhere to the Official Contest Rules.  

  • In the event of any question or difference of views regarding compliance with, interpretation, or application of these content requirements or other provisions of these Official Contest Rules, Contest Sponsors reserve the exclusive right to resolve such questions or differences of views at their sole discretion.  

  • By submitting artwork to the contest, the entrance affirms that they have obtained written consent from all individuals whose image or likeness appears in in the submission.  

  

Eligibility  

  • Contestants must be between 18 and 25 years old on the date of entry into the contest.   

  • Contestants must be actively enrolled at Bryant University, Community College of Rhode Island, Johnson and Wales, Rhode Island College, Providence College, and the University of Rhode Island at the date of entry into the contest and in possession of a student email address and/or Rhode Island ID.  

  • Contestants may submit an entry into the contest as part of a group of no more than three persons between 18 and 25 years old actively enrolled within a Rhode Island college or university.  

  • Once a submission has been accepted for entry into the contest, the contestant’s name (or User ID, if the contestant wishes to remain anonymous) may be publicly identified at the sole discretion of the contestant.  
      

Judges  

The judging panel is comprised of representatives of Contest Sponsors. The judging panel as comprised by Contest Sponsors may unanimously elect to extend judging privileges to individuals representing non-Contest Sponsor organizations for whom acceptance of invitation will constitute agreement with these Official Rules.   
 
Judging Criteria  
Contestants must submit their submission as part of (1) Creative or (2) Written category. Contestant may select their own theme within Responsible Gaming or choose from one of the below topics:    

  • Understanding responsible gaming.  

  • Prevention in action.  

  • Recognizing signs of problem gambling.  

  • Tips for managing time and money.  

  • Personal reflections or stories related to gambling and mental health.  

  

The judging panel will use the below criteria for winner selection:  

  

  • Relevance to Theme (30%)  

  • Creativity and Originality (30%)  

  • Clarity of Message (20%)  

  • Overall Impact (20%)  
      

Winners  

Each winner and/or finalist will be required to sign and return to Contest Sponsors a statement of eligibility and liability/publicity release and provide a brief statement about the submission; otherwise, the winner and/or finalist will be ineligible for any prize. Winners and finalists may choose to use an alias instead of their real name and may request other identifying information be kept private. Winner(s) will be contacted via e-mail at the e-mail address they provided for registration. The inability of Contest Sponsors to contact a potential winner may result in disqualification and/or selection of an alternate winner from among all remaining eligible submissions.

The below table details first, second, and third prize categories as part of the 2025 Nancy Murray Award for each contest category:

The selected group of finalists, including six winners, will be chosen by the Judging Panel. The Judging Panel may elect to showcase winning entries on challenge website, social media, and at Rhode Island Problem Gambling Council events.   
 
Winners must confirm the acceptance of the prize in an email reply within three business days. If the acceptance is not confirmed by the required date, the Contest Sponsors reserve the right to select an alternate winner.   

  

Liability and Rights  

  • As part of submission, Contestants agree to transfer all rights, title, and interest, including any intellectual property rights, to the Rhode Island Council on Problem Gambling and the Rhode Island Problem Gambling Services. This transfer is effective immediately upon submission and is irrevocable.  

  • Contestants grant Rhode Island Council on Problem Gambling and the Rhode Island Problem Gambling Services and its affiliates an exclusive, worldwide, royalty-free, perpetual, and irrevocable license to use, modify, reproduce, publish, display, distribute, and otherwise exploit your submission in any form, media, or technology now known or later developed. This usage includes, but is not limited to, promotional, marketing, and commercial purposes.  

  

Liability and Rights  

  • Contest Sponsors do not endorse any submissions or messages expressed therein, and Contest Sponsors expressly disclaim any and all liability in connection with the submitted photos, including disputes between collaborators related to a submission.  

  • Contestant assumes sole responsibility for the contest submission and the material contained in it, and for any consequences of submitting or posting it.  

  • Contest Sponsors reserve the right, at any time and in their sole discretion, to disqualify and/or deem ineligible any individual who they reasonably believe (i) has violated the Official Contest Rules; (ii) has violated the terms of use of platform, or (iii) is acting in a bad faith, or in an unsportsmanlike or disruptive manner, or with intent to annoy, abuse, threaten, or harass any other person.  

  • Contest Sponsors reserve the right to modify, suspend, terminate, or cancel the contest at their discretion for any reason.  

  • Contest Sponsors will take reasonable measures to protect privacy data, personally identifiable information, and other sensitive data of contestants. Contact information provided by contestants may be stored by EPIC Global Solutions for the purpose of communication related to contest participation. This information may be shared with the co-sponsor of the contest and/or made available to third parties to the extent permitted by law.  

  • Contest Sponsors assume no liability or responsibility for any loss or harm resulting from any user’s participation in or attempt to participate in the contest or ability or inability to upload, download, or otherwise access any information in connection with participating in the contest.  

  • Contest Sponsors are not liable in the event that any portion of the contest is cancelled or delayed.  
      

In order to enter this contest, participants must agree to these Official Rules. By entering this contest, participants agree to abide by these Official Rules.
